The Brantford Covenant Church Community Choir is preparing for their annual Christmas Cantata, with two productions scheduled for December 6th and 7th. On December 6th, the Choir will perform at the Central Christian Church in Belleville at 6:30 p.m. They will then perform at the Brantford Covenant Church, outside of Clyde, off Bismark Rd., on December 7th at 6:30 p.m.

Kent Kalivoda, Choir Director since 1990, said this year’s theme is ‘Hope in a Manger.’ Attendees can expect a good blend of song styles.

“This Cantata is a good blend of both contemporary and traditional songs. There will be a wide variety of styles and tempos, and that’s always a good thing for the choir, kind of challenges them.”

“At the Brantford performance, some of the children and teenage youth will be presenting a dramatization of the life of Christ. They’ll use music and costumes, and kind of light and shadow.”

“The kids are really excited about that.”

Both productions are free and open to the public, with refreshments being served after each performance. Donations are welcome, which helps the Choir purchase new music.

The Choir includes singers from the area towns of Clifton, Clyde, Agenda, Belleville, Washington, and more. Kalivoda said anyone can be part of the Choir.

“Anyone can sing in the Choir; it’s open to anyone.”

“Generally, when we’re getting ready to start rehearsals, we put out publicity for rehearsals, and we start rehearsals in mid to late September.”
