For a brief moment, Putnam Hall residents got an early look at their future home as Kansas State University prepares to reopen the newly renovated Boyd Hall. On Sunday, students explored the updated building, checking out the larger common areas and their soon-to-be rooms. Boyd Hall, nearly 75 years old, is reopening after several years of closure and more than a year of construction. The renovation updates living spaces, improves accessibility, and creates a new home for the University Honors Program.
Upgrades include larger lounges on each floor, individual study rooms, and redesigned bathroom pods that offer private, single-use spaces with a toilet, sink, and shower. The improvements aim to give students more privacy, ease the transition to on-campus living, and maintain the building’s historic character while adding modern features.
Boyd will house about 200 residents, with its lower level converted into offices and collaboration spaces for honors staff and students. As residents move in, renovation work will begin on Putnam Hall and Van Zile Dining Center, with new dining options expected in fall 2026. Housing leaders say the updates are part of a broader effort to build strong, supportive residential communities across campus.
