Boeing announced it has officially completed its purchase of Spirit AeroSystems. The deal brings all of Spirit’s Boeing-related commercial operations under Boeing.

The acquisition makes Boeing’s largest supplier of spare parts part of the company, strengthens Boeing’s global maintenance, repair, and overhaul services, and adds Spirit’s aftermarket businesses, including rotable, lease, and exchange services, to Boeing’s portfolio.

Spirit Defense will continue operating independently to support its defense customers without disruption. It will coordinate with Boeing Defense for financial reporting and certain support functions but will maintain its own governance and operations.

Boeing also acquired parts of Spirit’s operations in Belfast, Northern Ireland, which will operate as an independent subsidiary called Short Brothers. Spirit’s commercial and aftermarket operations in Wichita, Dallas, and Tulsa, along with its Aerospace Innovation Center in Prestwick, Scotland, will begin integrating into Boeing. About 15,000 employees across these five sites are becoming part of Boeing.

“Kansas’ aviation expertise reaches far beyond our borders,” said Governor Laura Kelly. “We help manufacture the aircraft the world relies on. Boeing’s acquisition of Spirit AeroSystems underscores the global significance of the work happening in our state and positions Kansas to continue shaping the future of aerospace innovation for decades to come.”

“Wichita would not be the Air Capital of the World without the extraordinary engineers, designers and manufacturers who have invested in our aerospace industry and made Kansas their home. Boeing’s acquisition of Spirit AeroSystems will help build bridges between Seattle and Wichita and bring new opportunities to the Air Capital of the World,” said Senator Jerry Moran, chairman of the Senate Commerce Subcommittee on Aviation, Space, and Innovation. “I welcome Boeing back to Wichita and look forward to working with them to build a lasting relationship with the community and its workforce, as well as current and future suppliers, to continue building on the growth we have seen in recent years.”
