The USD 379 school board met for a regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, December 8th. The board reviewed data from each school, including attendance percentages and ongoing projects. Athletic accomplishments were also acknowledged.
During the meeting, the Board discussed changes to guidelines and reviewed suggested changes set forth by the Kansas Association of School Boards or KASB. A full list of changes is available on the USD 379 website.
Next, the Board accepted the dissolution of Southern Cloud USD 334, which voted to dissolve on November 4th.
USD 379 will accept a portion of the district’s former jurisdiction and Board member territory may be adjusted if the addition creates an imbalance of more than 5% of the population that a member serves.
Two project bids were approved, which will be funded by capital outlay. It includes a flooring project of 1,649 square feet of LVT at Garfield and 3,052 square feet of LVT at Wakefield. A bid from Floor Perfect, LLC out of Salina was approved at $50,506.

Superintendent Brett Nelson noted that two additional bids were received and that the district tries to draw in as many local companies as possible. However, he said with larger projects they often receive fewer bids.
An HVAC project was approved with work being done in the CCCHS conference room and ag shop, as well as heating upgrades and repairs at the Bus Barn. This project went to Central Mechanical, which operates a location in Clay Center, for $47,050.
A bid for the Tiger House from Brent Craig was accepted by the board, which will include an additional $5,127 over hard costs.
Three potential school calendar options were also discussed by the board; no decision has been made.
Personnel changes were accepted, including hirings and accepting resignations. Jean Cassity Hauck was accepted as the Lincoln/Garfield art teacher, effective for the 2026/2027 school year. Deborah Swoboda was accepted as a paraeducator at Linn under TLEC, which was effective Dec. 9th. Rebecca Woolever was accepted as a science teacher at Wakefield for the 2026-2027 school year.
Resignations were accepted from Sheri Gilliam, paraeducator at Linn, effective Nov. 11, 2025; Michelle Sandoval, paraeducator at Linn, effective Nov. 24, 2025; Aaron Floersch, assistant 8th-grade boys basketball coach, effective Nov. 25, 2025; Mark Moneypenny, Wakefield principal, effective end of 2025/2026 school year.
Retirements were accepted from Laura Pollman, CCCHS social studies teacher, assistant athletic director, and head 9th grade volleyball coach, effective end of 2025/2026 school year; Tyler Nelson, CCCHS social studies teacher, head track coach, head cross country coach, effective end of 2025/2026 school year.
