President Donald Trump has approved Governor Laura Kelly’s request for a major presidential disaster declaration to provide public assistance for damage to infrastructure caused by severe storms, straight-line winds, and flooding from July 17-22, 2025.

The declaration enables state and local governments, as well as certain private nonprofit organizations that provide essential services, such as rural electric cooperatives, to apply for Public Assistance funds to cover emergency and permanent repairs or replacements of damaged infrastructure.

“I am grateful that this request for federal assistance has been approved,” Governor Laura Kelly said. “These federal funds will go a long way in supporting these counties as they rebuild their infrastructure.”

Twelve Kansas counties are included in the disaster declaration: Barton, Comanche, Edwards, Hodgeman, Logan, Morris, Ottawa, Rawlins, Saline, Stevens, Sumner, and Wyandotte.
