As the holiday season winds down, many people have or will soon take down their Christmas decorations, lights, and trees. Those who cut down or purchased real trees may be wondering where to dispose of their tree in the area.
Ken Shivers, Street Superintendent for the City of Clay Center, said Clay Center residents are allowed to dispose of live Christmas trees at the city limb disposal site at no cost, as long as the tree is free of any lights, ornaments, or other decorations. The site is located south of Lady Greyhound Street, near the Clay County Fairgrounds, just past the wastewater plant.
Clay County residents can also bring live trees out to the Clay County Landfill south of Clay Center off Highway 15; they do ask that all decorations and lights be removed first. The landfill does charge a small fee for tree disposal.
Throughout the region, those with questions about where to properly dispose of live Christmas trees can reach out to city or county officials.
