Representative Sharice Davids voted today, January 8, to pass a bipartisan funding agreement that includes five projects she requested for Kansas’ Third District. The funding focuses on education, public safety, and water infrastructure. Davids said the agreement helps avoid a government shutdown while making targeted investments in local communities.
“Working together across the aisle is how Congress should operate, and it’s about time we got back to it,” said Davids. “The projects we secured are fiscally responsible, developed in partnership with local leaders, and strengthen our communities by ensuring cleaner water, enhancing public safety, and driving economic growth. This is how we deliver concrete results for Kansans.”
The approved projects include funding for new manufacturing lab equipment at K-State Olathe to train students for high-paying advanced manufacturing jobs. Bonner Springs will receive funding to expand its sewer system to prevent overflows and better serve residents and businesses. The Overland Park Police Department will replace body cameras and upgrade video systems to improve safety and transparency. Olathe will use funding to repair aging sewer pipes to prevent leaks, and Princeton will improve its stormwater system to reduce flooding and support future growth.
The vote approved three federal spending bills for fiscal year 2026. While this is a major step, Congress must still pass six more funding bills before the January 30 deadline to avoid a shutdown.
