The meeting began with the election of officers. Jason Bergsten was voted as President with a 5-1 vote; Linda Sleichter opposed. Jeff Cannizzo was unanimously voted in as Vice President.
The Board approved the minutes, statements, and reports from the previous meeting, including a grant request for tire chips for the PK playground.
Brett Nelson, Superintendent, presented his report. There are currently six certified positions open, including Principal positions for Wakefield and the high school. District leadership met with the KDHE Bond Hearing Committee. He reported that all went well, and the application is scheduled to be presented to the State Board of Education on January 13th.
Anita Breen, TLEC Director, presented her report. A Spring Child Check will take place on February 20th in Clay Center. The event is intended for children up to the age of 5.
Jaclyn Pfizenmaier, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, presented her report. The report detailed information on the district’s technology report, including staffing needs, cost savings, and a five-year technology improvement plan breakdown.
The Board considered and approved meeting dates for the year 2026. Regular meetings will continue to be held on the second Monday of each month.
A motion was made to approve the 2026-2027 school calendar, motion carried unanimously. They also approved any policy updates.
A motion was also made to approve Nabholz as the Construction Manager at Risk for projects approved as part of the 2026 Bond. Motion carried 5-1, Linda Sleichter opposed.
