On Wednesday, U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. issued a statement following President Trump’s signing of legislation restoring whole milk in school cafeterias. The Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act reverses an Obama-era policy that removed whole milk from schools, expanding healthy milk options for students.

Sen. Marshall has long advocated for improved nutrition standards in schools, promoting access to wholesome foods for American families. He highlighted that nearly 90% of Americans fail to meet daily dairy recommendations, including sufficient Calcium and Vitamin D, both abundant in whole milk. Leading nutritionists note that whole dairy fats do not negatively impact diets and may even lower heart disease risk.

Sen. Marshall first introduced the bill in June 2023. After reintroduction in April 2025 with bipartisan support, the legislation passed the Senate Agriculture Committee in June 2025 and cleared the Senate in November 2025, paving the way for its signing into law.

“Our country is getting back to the basics when it comes to healthier living – eating real food – and the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act fits right in. This legislation is a win for our kids, ensuring they get the nutrients they need, and for the hardworking farmers who make it possible,” said Senator Marshall. “As a physician, there’s no drink I recommend more for growing kids than whole milk. I’m proud to have worked with Senator Welch on this bipartisan effort, and I was thrilled to see President Trump sign it into law today.”
