Senator Jerry Moran has secured $36 million in federal funding to help finish construction of the new University of Kansas Cancer Center. The funding was approved by Congress as part of a three-bill spending package and now heads to the president’s desk to be signed into law.
Sen. Moran, who chairs the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science, has helped bring in a total of $105 million in federal funding for the project since 2022. The money is being used to build and equip a new facility that will combine cancer care and research in one location. Sen. Moran took part in the groundbreaking for the center in May 2025.
“The University of Kansas Cancer Center is a nationally recognized leader in the fight against cancer,” said Sen. Moran. “With these federal resources, The University of Kansas Cancer Center will be able to complete construction on this new, state-of-the-art cancer center and bring us closer to opening its doors for groundbreaking cancer research. This facility will expand the cancer services and research provided in Kansas and across the Midwest, saving lives and bringing us closer to finding a cure for cancer.”
The new cancer center will expand patient care and research, offering access to more clinical trials and advanced treatments developed on site. Sen. Moran has also requested additional funding in the upcoming federal budget to purchase equipment for the center. That request is expected to be considered by Congress soon.
