A man was killed early Tuesday in an officer-involved shooting in northeast Wichita. The incident occurred around 1 a.m. at an apartment complex, according to the Wichita Police Department.
Authorities were called to the scene after a 911 report of a disturbance in an apartment unit. When officers arrived, they knocked on the apartment door and identified themselves. Officers say the man inside threatened to retrieve a gun.
Officers stepped back from the doorway, and the man then exited the apartment with a gun aimed at an officer. Police opened fire, striking the man. Officers attempted to provide aid, but the man was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. No officers were injured during the incident.
Another individual present in the apartment at the time has been taken into custody. The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office will lead the investigation.
