Mahomes Targets Week 1 Return During Rehab Process

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes shared an update Thursday on his recovery from a season-ending knee injury suffered in Week 15. Speaking for the first time since surgery in mid-December, Mahomes said his rehab is progressing well as he works in Kansas City.

Mahomes said his goal is to be ready for Week 1 of the 2026 season, though he acknowledged the timeline will depend on how rehab unfolds. He is working closely with assistant athletic trainer Julie Frymyer, whom he credited for guiding him through past injuries.

Mahomes said he plans to take part in organized team activities in some capacity this spring. While he may be limited physically, he expects to stay involved by attending meetings and taking mental reps on the field.

The three-time Super Bowl MVP said he will complete most of his rehab in Kansas City and expects teammates to spend more time at the facility this offseason as the team prepares for 2026.
