The Magdalene Project in Junction City announced it will open a 24/7 warming shelter to support community members during an upcoming period of extreme cold.

The shelter will operate from 8:00 a.m. Friday, January 23, through 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 28, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 126 W. 7th Street in Junction City, with the possibility of extending operations through the end of the month, depending on weather conditions.

Guests will receive three homemade meals each day, a warm and safe place to sleep, access to clothing and supplies, and case management support. In addition to meeting basic needs, the shelter will provide games, movies, and personal support to create a welcoming environment.

While the Fresh Start Emergency Shelter currently operates overnight, the warming shelter will fill a critical gap by offering daytime refuge and overnight protection for others who are unhoused or without utilities.

Community members are encouraged volunteer to help keep the shelter operating during the frigid weather. Contact the Magdalene Project to volunteer.
