Taylor Outlines Football Progress, NIL Plans in January Update

Kansas State athletics director Gene Taylor covered a wide range of topics during the Jan. 30 edition of Ask the AD, focusing on football, finances and name, image and likeness efforts.

Taylor said new football coach Collin Klein has been active during his first 50 days, completing his staff, working the transfer portal and recruiting. He added that Klein has pushed for new ideas while staying within budget.

Taylor also discussed a recent trip to Topeka with other state athletic directors, where they shared a study showing Kansas’ Division I programs generate $1.55 billion in economic impact.

Much of the conversation centered on NIL. Taylor explained the department’s two funding priorities: operational costs and “above-the-cap” NIL opportunities. He highlighted new staff roles and upcoming fan options like Cats+, a subscription-based platform.

Taylor said Kansas State will continue exploring new revenue streams, including jersey patches, to stay competitive in a changing college athletics landscape.
