The Kansas State women’s tennis team opened its spring season Friday with a 4-2 loss to No. 21 Clemson at Homestead Country Club.
K-State earned an early advantage by winning the doubles point. The teams of Maralgoo and Martaa Chogsomjav, along with Sasha Kyselova and Chanel Rustemova, picked up wins to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.
Maralgoo Chogsomjav added a singles victory at the No. 1 spot, defeating Jade Groen in straight sets. However, Clemson responded with wins on four singles courts to secure the match. Several matches went three sets, including Martaa Chogsomjav’s battle at No. 3.
The dual marked the first meeting between the two programs and featured a young Kansas State lineup that included multiple freshmen.
K-State will look to rebound next weekend with two road matches in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The Wildcats face Tulsa on Feb. 7 before taking on Arkansas on Feb. 8 as they continue early-season play.
