On Tuesday, the House Elections Committee approved House Bill 2448, which would require Kansas driver’s licenses to clearly show a person’s citizenship status. Right now, state IDs don’t make it easy for election officials to quickly verify if someone is a U.S. citizen. The bill is intended to help ensure that only eligible voters take part in Kansas elections and to protect the integrity of the vote.
During a hearing last Thursday, Chairman Pat Proctor said the bill is a proactive step to modernize election security. While Kansas already has strong election laws, adding a clear citizenship indicator on IDs would close a potential gap and boost public confidence in the voting process.
Proctor expects the full Kansas House to consider the bill soon.
