Community Church Camp soup supper Feb. 11

The Clay Center Community Church Camp committee is hosting a soup supper from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. February 11 at the Methodist Church Family Life Center to raise money to send kids to church camp this summer.

Holly Chestnut, secretary at the Presbyterian Church, said the need is expected to be in excess of $40,000 this year.

“When we have fundraisers 100% of donations go to camp registration,” she said. “We have volunteers that take kids to and from camp so there’s really no expense for the kids to go.”

Chestnut said that kids can attend any church camp but the most popular in recent history have the been Convenant Cedars, York, Nebraska; Horizon in Arkansas City, Kansas; and Student Life Camp that changes locations each year. Those with questions can call Chestnut at the Presbyterian Church or Gail Edmiston at the Methodist Church. She added that the committee only has one other fundraiser planned to raise scholarship money this year but they are always open to others.

“We are going to be doing for the Clay Center 4th of July celebration a hamburger, hot dog, chips, and water bottle meal for a free will donation,” she said.

Chestnut said last year the committee gave 108 scholarships to four different church camps.
