The Dickinson County Health Department is now a designated drop-off site for donated breast milk, providing local mothers with a convenient way to support infants in need.
The depot officially opened in January. The site partners with the Oklahoma Mothers’ Milk Bank, which oversees donor screening, blood testing, and pasteurization at no cost to donors.
Women must complete a health history review and blood tests through the milk bank before receiving approval to donate. Once qualified, donors can drop off frozen milk at the health department, where it is stored until a scheduled monthly pickup.
Sponsored by the Kansas Breastfeeding Coalition, the program aims to give babies the best possible start while supporting mothers. Collected milk is distributed to hospitals and approved families, particularly those with medically fragile infants.
