On February 17th City Council held its regularly scheduled meeting. Councilor Teresa Charbonneau attended via Zoom.
Mayor Jimmy Thatcher read a letter from Wakefield Mayor, Leza Chryssovergis. She thanked three employees from the Clay Center Street Department for their help in assisting Wakefield staff modify a dump truck. Chryssovergis said the move made a meaningful difference for the Wakefield Community and thanked the time and effort, noting that Wakefield was willing to share their own time and expertise, if needed.
“I appreciate this letter and I appreciate the fact that we’re willing to help them, and I know they’re willing to come help us too,” Thatcher said.
Under formal actions, it was moved to approve a roof repair on City Hall for $5,225.32. The repairs will be performed by McGee Roofing.
Councilor Daton Hess noted that curb work has begun around town, including two locations of gutter valley, a new entrance to the City’s street shop, entrance to Campbell Field, and the housing addition on the east end of Clay Center. Ongoing maintenance continues along Blunt Street.
“With mess comes improvement,” Hess said. “It’ll look really nice once it’s done.”
Councilor Phil Kasper noted the airport project remains on schedule, with concrete work to resume April 1. Meanwhile, the roof is almost complete in the Multi-Generational Life Center and tin has been placed.
In addition, Kasper said Greenwood Cemetery plans to replace a shop garage door for $2,961.16 from Bloom Construction. The cemetery received damage to trees, which is ongoing with repairs.
The Parks and Recreation Department will purchase a sound system for the Rundel-Brown Sports Complex. It is being purchased with donation funds and does not require anything from the city budget. Kasper said the system is mostly a safety feature, allowing the public to be notified in the event of inclement weather.
