The River Valley Extension District will hold a four-part program designed for people with type 2 diabetes titled ‘Dining with Diabetes.’ Sessions will be held at Clay County Medical Center in Clay Center on Tuesdays, April 14th, 21st, and May 5th, 12th, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Kaitlin Moore, Nutrition, Food Safety, and Health Agent, said this program is nationally recognized.
“This program was originally developed by Virginia Extension, but it’s now recognized on a national level and offered across the United States.”
“The Extension agents who offer this program, we are trained by the National Dining with Diabetes Working Group.”
The program will cover topics such as how diabetes affects one’s overall health, healthy eating, and more. Attendees will also sample healthy foods.
“There’s a lot of cooking demos and food sampling involved. We try to prepare a full meal during each session.”
“It is also a great opportunity to connect with other people who might also be living with diabetes.”
“The main focus of this Dining with Diabetes program is definitely going to be on the nutrition aspect or the food aspect of managing diabetes on a day-to-day basis.”
Registration is required, and there is a small fee for the program to cover the cost of meals.
