Families across Kansas can now apply for the SUN Bucks program to help cover food costs for school‑aged children during the summer months. SUN Bucks, also known as Summer EBT, is a federal nutrition benefit administered by the Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF).

Under the program, eligible families will receive a one‑time benefit of $120 per eligible child to buy groceries such as fruits, vegetables, dairy, meat, and whole grains at grocery stores, farmers markets, online retailers, and other SNAP‑accepting locations.

Children eligible for free or reduced‑price school meals or those in households that received Food Assistance or TANF since July 2025 may automatically qualify and will receive a notification letter from DCF after January 2026. Families who do not receive a letter but believe they qualify can apply through the DCF Self‑Service Portal.

Benefits will be issued beginning in summer 2026 and do not affect immigration status or eligibility for other programs. The funds will be loaded onto a family’s Kansas Benefits Card (EBT card) and must be used within 122 days of issuance. For more information or to submit an application, visit the DCF Self‑Service Portal at dcfapp.kees.ks.gov
