Kansas Insurance Commissioner Vicki Schmidt released 2025 data showing that insurance companies paid nearly $879.1 million for storm damage claims across the state. Last year, there were 82,498 storm claims reported.
The amount paid out in 2025 nearly doubled compared to 2023, when $442 million was paid on 147,710 claims. Sedgwick County had the highest payouts at more than $328 million, while Rush County had the lowest at about $102 thousand. A full county-by-county breakdown is available on the Kansas Department of Insurance website.
The Department collects this data from property and casualty insurers to track how storms affect homeowners and drivers. It covers losses from hail, wind, water, fire, and other weather-related damage.
