Wisner’s Greenhouse Project at 23rd & Elk is excited to host its 3rd annual Clay County Seed & Plant Swap at 4th & Court Bookshop & Marketplace in downtown Clay Center, Saturday, March 7th. This free community event will run from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Melissa Wisner and her husband, Josh, are the event’s organizers. She explained how the seed swap works.
“A seed swap is a community event that anyone is welcome to attend, no matter your gardening skills or background.”
“People bring their own seeds, and then you can take seeds that other people have brought.”
“It’s a good way to try new plants, try different plants, try to grow things you’ve never grown before, and even see plants that you’ve maybe never heard of before.”
The event will also include music by Phil Bone & Perry Hadduck, 4th and Torch Espresso Bar, raffle prizes, information and resources from the River Valley Extension District, and more.
Wisner emphasized that patrons do not have to bring seeds of their own to take part, as there are always plenty of seeds left over. Everyone is welcome, especially if you’re a fan of gardening.
“The reason why we love doing this event is that gardeners and growers are, by nature, a really sharing and collective group of people.”
“It’s such a fun environment to just be able to share with other people who have a love for gardening, or people who want to learn about growing.”
“The gardening community is just an incredibly generous community, and so we really have loved learning from them.”
Wisner said there will be something for everyone, and the day is meant to be a fun community gathering.
