The Flint Hills Discovery Center (FHDC) will present the 11th annual Meet the Makers event Monday through Friday, March 16 through 20. Each day a local creator, crafter, or maker will present live demonstrations of their work from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the first-floor atrium of the Discovery Center. Visitors are encouraged to interact with the artists, ask questions, and see their work come to life.

  • Monday, March 16
    • Sanna Cranmer – A member of the MHK Fiber Guild since 2017, watch Cranmer demonstrate handweaving on a 4-harness table loom, spinning wheel, and see her spin fiber into yarn with a drop spindle.
  • Tuesday, March 17
    • Veronica’s Veil – Using henna, receive a tattoo in a design of choice. The ancient technique of henna tattooing leaves a temporary stain on the skin.
  • Wednesday, March 18
    • Flint Hills Woodturners – Explore the sights and sounds of woodturning as this Manhattan area club demonstrates this exciting artform, transforming pieces of wood into beautiful creations.
  • Thursday, March 19
    • Konza Prairie Quilters Guild – Discover the world of quilting through a beautiful display, see different steps of the quilting process, and learn about different quilting types and techniques. There is also a fun kids’ activity.
  • Friday, March 20
    • Cap Rock Inspirations, LLC – Rhonda Denney is a fiber artist using a combination of fabric, pigments, and stitching to create artwork. View original pieces and see her process as she brings fiber art to life. She will have some small pieces of fabric with a marked pattern for guests to color and take home.
    • ChickaBee Pottery – Jill Nixon is the face (and hands) behind ChickaBee Pottery. A self-taught artist, Nixon will demonstrate her work in wheel thrown and hand built functional and decorative pottery.

Meet the Makers is free and open to the public. Those wanting to explore the exhibits beyond the atrium at the FHDC must pay the general admission fee. Some artists may have items for sale.
