On March 10 the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) and the Drive To Zero Coalition hosted the third annual Drive To Zero Day at the Kansas State Capitol, bringing together state agencies, law enforcement, and safety advocates to discuss ways to reduce traffic deaths in Kansas.
The event highlighted the coalition’s work and progress using the “Safe System” approach, a data-driven strategy focused on preventing serious injuries and fatalities on Kansas roads.
During a morning news conference, KDOT Secretary Calvin Reed said improving roadway safety requires teamwork. “Success depends on shared responsibility and strong partnerships across state government, local communities and the public. Drive to Zero Day at the Capitol highlights the work being done and what we need to do to continue the work in roadway safety,” he said.
Speakers also included Kansas Highway Patrol Captain Matt Payne, Kansas Department of Health and Environment Secretary Janet Stanek, and Shannon Francis.
Along with interactive displays, lawmakers and attendees spoke with safety professionals from law enforcement, emergency services, and local businesses about efforts to reduce dangerous driving and improve road safety.
