The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported it responded to three fires on Thursday March 12.
At 12:50 p.m., an out-of-control fire was located by Undersheriff Mark Werbin around Limestone and 9th Road, threatening a residential structure. Local rural fire departments and the Dickenson County Rural Fire Task Force responded, as well as a neighbor with their tractor and disc. Due to the efforts of all involved, the structure was saved. Officials said the cause of this fire is believed to have been reignited from a previous trash burn fueled by high winds.
Once that fire was contained, another fire was reported at 1:48 p.m. in the area of Thunder Road between 11th and 12th. The fire was found to be on fish and game property and was a re-kindle of a controlled burn two weeks prior by Fish and Game.
The third fire was reported at 3:48 p.m. in the area of Buffalo between 21st and 22nd Road. Local rural fire departments and the Dickenson County Rural Task Force again responded and were able to locate and extinguish the blaze. The fire re-kindled from an older control burn due to high winds.
