Firefighters across Kansas continue battling several wildfires, with state and local crews working together to contain the blazes.

The Kansas Forest Service posted an update on Facebook and said its fire staff partnered with local fire departments over the weekend to provide equipment, resources, and expertise to help suppress several intense fires.

One of the fires, known as the Bow Creek Fire in Rooks County, was reported March 15 along Bow Creek south of Glade. The fire burned about 160 acres. Local and state crews were able to stop the forward spread of the fire and worked to remove burning trees that could have threatened containment efforts. The Stockton Fire Department is handling additional information about that fire.

Another fire in Marshall County, known as the Bicycle Bridge Fire, was first reported March 12 south of Frankfort along the Black Vermillion River. The fire has burned about 1,000 acres.

Flood debris along the river made firefighting efforts more difficult. A helicopter equipped with a water bucket was brought in to help, dropping about 90 buckets of water on hot spots. The Kansas Department of Transportation also assisted by using heavy equipment to clear large debris.

Officials say the Marshall County fire is now being monitored as remaining debris continues to smolder inside the burn area.
