The Kansas Farm Bureau (KFB) announced it has joined the Center for American Food Power, a group focused on strengthening U.S. agriculture and its role in national security. As part of the partnership, KFB will offer guidance and support to help keep American agriculture competitive worldwide and highlight its importance to the nation’s security.

“Food security is national security, and CAFP will help develop comprehensive policy to drive innovation in the increasingly complex network between farm fields and dinner plates,” says KFB President Joe Newland. “Kansas Farm Bureau’s board is excited to partner with the Center and believes the policy developed there will bring together broad perspectives to shape agriculture, food production and national security for generations.”

The Center will examine key changes in agriculture, such as production, trade, labor, technology and global politics, that are challenging the U.S.’s long-standing leadership in food and agriculture.

The Center was founded by Brett Sciotto, Ray Starling and Greg Somerhalder. It will operate as a nonpartisan group, bringing together experts to study issues, coordinate across sectors and help shape policy. The goal is to keep U.S. agriculture strong, competitive and prepared for future challenges. More funding partners are expected to be announced soon.
