Arbor Day Foundation names Fort Riley Tree City USA for 35th consecutive year

Fort Riley, KS- Fort Riley has been named a 2021 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management. This marks the 35th consecutive year Fort Riley has earned Tree City USA status.

In recognition of Arbor Day, Fort Riley planted a redbud tree near the Main Post Chapel located in Historic Main Post.

Fort Riley achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements: a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

Trees provide multiple benefits to a community when properly planted and maintained. They improve a neighborhood’s visual appeal, increase property values, reduce home cooling costs, remove air pollutants and provide a habitat for wildlife, among many other benefits.
