Obituary-Richard “Dick” Cyphers

Richard L. “Dick” Cyphers, age 81, entered into rest on Sunday, July 17, 2022, at the Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas. He was born on March 25, 1941 in Concordia, Kansas to Mike and Dorothea (Lanoue) Cyphers.

Dick went to High School in McCook, Nebraska until his senior year.  The family moved to Concordia and Dick was a 1959 graduate of Concordia High School, Concordia, Kansas. He also attended Brown Mackie College in Salina, Kanas studying business.

On April 23, 1961 he married Phyllis R. McGinnis in Concordia, Kansas.  They celebrated 61 years of marriage this past April.  To this Union three children were born, Eric, Stephanie and Jeff.

Dick was a school bus driver for USD 333 Concordia for 42 years and spent the last 18 years driving the special needs school bus.  He also was an area farmer until moving into town in 1988.

He was a past member of the Elks and Moose Lodge.

Dick’s hobbies include brick carving, where he had a hand in creating the downtown carved brick mural, crocheting, knitting, drawing, arts, and working with stained glass. Dick also loved to dance and he and Phyllis spent many years enjoying polka and ballroom dancing.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis and faithful companion JoJo of the home in Concordia, KS; son, Eric Cyphers (Meliss), Yucaipa, CA; daughter, Stephanie Scheele (Jeff), Bennington, KS; son, Jeff Cyphers, Jamestown, KS; sister, Patricia Wright (Dee), Palm Harbor, FL; 9 grandchildren, Callie, Tami, Kimi, Brittany, Lucas, Linsey, Deric, Brittany and Marissa; 7 great-grandchildren, Aiden, Lee, Owen, Lexie, Reagan, Dillon, and Clayton.

He was preceded by his parents.

Visitation will be held from 1-8 p.m, Thursday, July 21, 2022 at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 6-7 pm.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, July 22, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, Kansas with Pastor Bob Burns officiating. Burial of cremains will take place at a later time in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas
