Betty Lorraine Carver was born May 22, 1923, in Minneapolis, KS. She was the youngest daughter of Ethel Mae (Bishop) Carver and Levi Bert Carver. Betty passed away November 13, 2022 in her home at the age of 99 years, 6 months.
Betty Carver of Clyde, KS was married to Warren Coupal of Miltonvale on May 16, 1945, at the Clay Center United Methodist Church.
She graduated from Clyde High School in 1943, received her Normal Training, and then received her teaching certificate. She taught the next 2 years before getting married.
To this union was born 3 children, Shirley Coupal, Roeland Park, KS; Virginia Coupal-Smith, Roeland Park, KS; and Douglas and wife Michelle (Carlson) Coupal, Clay Center, KS. She was a great mom and participated in all of her children’s activities. They built their home on the family farm, a Century farm in Western Clay County. Betty was a homemaker and loved to be involved with the farming operation.
She was a member of the Clyde United Methodist Church and their UMW organization, Homemakers Extension Unit, Clay County 4-H, and served on the Browndale School Board. Betty was also a member of the Nathan Edson Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, Clay Center, KS. She served as Chapter Regent and State Chairman of Conservation for the Kansas Society, as well as a member of the Daughters of the American Colonists. She was also eligible to belong to the Mayflower Society.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Warren, parents Ethel & Levi Carver, three brothers and one sister.
Survivors include her three children as well as four grandchildren: Jessica (Smith) and husband Jeff Young, Lenexa, KS; Brenton Smith, Roeland Park, KS; Kyler Coupal and wife Shelby (Hynek) of Miltonvale, KS; and Kinsey (Coupal) and husband Trevor Cox, Clay Center, KS. Great Grandchildren include, Isabella Young, Graham Young, Coleson Cox and Emma Cox.
Her life was filled with many interesting experiences. She was born prematurely at 3 lbs, survived several accidents, and worked hard as a farmer’s wife. They raised turkeys for a few years, but the main focus at the farm was cattle. She canned her own fruits and vegetables, and made the best apple pie. Betty enjoyed the friends and family that would drop in to see her. She loved having her grandchildren around, who got away with more than her own kids did. She taught them to play Checkers and Rummy, along with having the best Pepsi parties, cookies, and ice cream. Betty may have been best known for her jokes and no one was ever a stranger to her as she had the gift to start up a conversation with anyone.
She will always be loved and missed by many!

Visitation for Betty Coupal will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2022 from 4-7 PM at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center, KS.
Funeral Services will be on Friday, November 18, 2022 at 1:30 PM at the Clay Center United Methodist Church, Clay Center, KS. A live stream will begin shortly before the service at the following link https://www.facebook.com/nsrfuneralhome/live
Burial will take place at the Lincoln Cemetery, rural Clay County at 3:30 PM on Friday.
