Obituary-Conrad R. Stewart

Conrad R. Stewart, 88, Washington, died Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at the Washington County Hospital in Washington.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at Ward Funeral Home in Washington.  The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

A funeral service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, December, 28, 2022 at the Washington Christian Church, Washington.

Burial will be private family.

Conrad was born January 31, 1934 at Emmons, Ks. to Raymond and Faye (Tegethoff) Stewart.  He attended Emmons School and graduated from Washington High School in 1951. He served as a Radio Operator in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Anchorage Alaska and was honorably discharged in 1956.

Conrad married Deanna (Mueller) Stewart in 1959. During their union they had sons Kent and Gregg. They later divorced.

He met his life companion, Gena Ketter in 1992.

In his early years, Conrad carried rural mail for USPS. He worked briefly for the FDIC as an appraiser. First and foremost, Conrad was a farmer and stockman. He appreciated good crops, good cattle and strived to improve both. He was instrumental in helping his sons raise show cattle which led to the formation of the family business Mid Continent Farms.

Conrad participated in various clubs and organizations. Among his favorites were the American Legion, Masons and Isis Shriners.

Conrad’s pride and joy was his family. He enjoyed farming, socializing and dancing.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Adelbert Stewart; sister-in-law, Wanda Stewart; and niece, Shari Stewart.

Survivors include his life companion, Gena Ketter, Washington; Gena’s son, Derrick Ketter, Marysville; sons, Kent (Michelle) Stewart, Franklin, Tx.; Gregg (Debbie) Washington; brother, Norman (Marcella Holbrook) Stewart; sister- in- law, Lavone Stewart, all of Washington; sister, Sylvia (Neil) Baird, Overland Park; grandchildren, Garrett (Stevie) Stewart, Brigham Stewart both of Washington, Derek (Miranda) Stewart, San Angelo, Tx, Tucker Stewart Washington, D.C. and Devon (Kellen) Sherlock, Washington; step granddaughters, Kinley Haver and Laynie Haver, both of Franklin Tx.; great grandchildren, Sutton Stewart, Burch Stewart, Peyton Sherlock, Stratton Stewart, Stryker Stewart, Steely Stewart, Ben Sherlock and Emmett Stewart.

A memorial fund is established to the local FFA Chapter, local 4-H Club of persons choice or Washington County Hospital.  Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
