Anna (Annie) Leah Chapin, 99, went home to Heaven on Sunday, March 26, 2023. A loving wife, devoted parent, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, she passed away peacefully at Sunset Nursing Home, Concordia, Kansas.
Anna was born in Little Buffalo Village, South Dakota December 21, 1923 to Earl and Ida Holmes. At an early age, Anna’s family moved to Penrose, Colorado. As a young woman she worked at Ft. Carson Army Base in Colorado Springs where she met her future husband, Brad J. Chapin. Brad was in the Ft. Carson hospital recuperating from wounds suffered in Germany, during WWII.
Brad and Anna were married in Goodland, Kansas, September 27, 1945. After Brad’s discharge, they moved to Lebanon, Kansas where she was very active in Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts. Anna also worked many hours at the local hardware store in which Brad was a part owner. They moved to Concordia in 1972, and Anna worked at Sunset home for nearly 30 years – from 1972 until 2000.
Anna was a member of the First Christian Church in Concordia, AARP, The National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Cloud County Health Center Auxiliary, the 87th Infantry Division Association, and a life member of the Cloud County Historical Museum/Society. Anna was an avid quilter, and gardener. She and Brad thoroughly enjoyed spending time with their family. Anna was a giver in every sense of the word. She gave generously to strangers, charities, her family and friends. Anna walked with Jesus, and shared His grace by actions to all who knew her. Words are inadequate to describe Anna’s devotion to family, but she lived out the description of the virtuous woman.
Anna was preceded in death by her husband Brad in 2000 after fifty-five years of marriage, and all of her siblings.
Anna is survived by one son, John and wife Connie of Beloit, and one daughter, Margie Higgins of Concordia; two grandchildren, Brad and wife Mandy of Topeka, Leah Ingram of Beloit; five great grandchildren, Easton, Morgyn and Lauryn Chapin, Jonathon Grant Ingram, and Tamsen Bradlee Fuller, one sister-in-law; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 from 1:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 30, 2023 at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, with Pastor Al Paredes officiating. Burial to follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, in Concordia, Kansas.
