Obituary-Jerry J Kinser

Jerry J Kinser of Clyde, died peacefully on April 7, 2023 at NCKMC, surrounded by his loving family.

Jerry was born May 21, 1945 in Norton, KS to Joseph and Josephine (Von Schuetz) Kinser. The eldest of six children, he grew up on his family farm, was active in 4-H, band, and loved all sports.

He graduated from Jennings High School in 1963 and then Ft. Hays State University, where he met his wife, Josephine (Sandi) Marshall. They married March 5, 1966 and had two daughters, Jolene and Janell.

He received his Master’s Degree in Education Technology from Kansas State University. Jerry enjoyed teaching elementary students in WaKeeney, Weskan, Jamestown, and Concordia. After retiring, Jerry was an instructor at the Alternative High School in Concordia, taught Drivers Education to students in several districts, and was a substitute teacher at Clifton-Clyde. In addition to teaching, Jerry loved umpiring baseball, refereeing basketball and football, and especially enjoyed refereeing volleyball with his daughter, Janell. Once retired from that, he took to harassing the umpires and referees at his grandchildren’s sporting events.

He was a member of First Christian Church in Concordia for more than 38 years and served as an elder there for many years and served on the board of directors for Alpha Christian Children’s Home.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, wife (Sandi), brother (Tim Kinser), sister (Kay Ann Reedy), brother-in-law (John Stanley). He is survived by his daughters: Jolene Girard (Patrick) of Clyde, and Janell McMillan (Scott) of Topeka; grandchildren: Paige Shafferman (Jeff) and son Jack; Stephen McMillan (Emmelina) and children Elizabeth, Danny, and Nova; Dorian Fahey (Brett) and daughters Evyn, Isla, and Greer; Joseph McMillan (Susan) and children Abigail, Thomas, and Clarissa; Elias Girard (Fiancée, Katherine Holcomb); Adria Girard; Scott McMillan; siblings: Linda Stanley, Janet Morrin (Damon), John Kinser (Kay), sister-in-law Mary Kinser-Cressler (Russell), brother-in-law, Tom  Reedy (JoAnn), and several nieces and nephews.

Jerry’s wish was to be cremated, and a Memorial Service is planned for Friday, April 21 at 10:30 am at Chaput Mortuary in Clyde, KS officiated by Mr. Bernard Newell with a luncheon following at the Clyde Senior Center. A private family burial of the cremains is planned for the following day.
