Selling your locally grown or home-prepared foods might be easier than you think!
If you are interested in participating in your local Farmers Market, you can sell the following, without a license, directly to the end-consumer:
- Fresh, uncut fruits and vegetables
- Dried or freeze-dried uncut fruits and vegetables NOT heat treated before drying or freeze-drying
- Frozen, uncut fruits and vegetables NOT heat treated before freezing
- Fruit leathers
- Herbs
- Nuts and nut butters, including roasted or smoked nuts
- Intact salad greens, not cut beyond normal harvesting
- Spices
- Loose leaf or bagged tea
- Honey
- Eggs, ungraded
- Baked goods that do not require temperature control for safety such as cookies, cakes, breads, cinnamon rolls, fruits pies or fruit cobblers. Icings and frostings must be over 65% sugar by weight
- Chocolate dipped products that do not require temperature control for safety such as chocolate dipped pretzels, strawberries, nuts, etc.
- Dough, refrigerated, frozen or freeze-dried
- Dry baking mixes such as cookie mix or brownie mix
- Dry snacks seasoned with oil and spices such as dry pretzels mixed with oil and spices
- Grain products such as home-ground flour, cornmeal, intact grain, dehydrated sourdough starter
- Fruit jams and jellies
- Canned fruit products that are naturally high in acid such as canned applesauce, most canned fruits, and canned pie filling
- Soda/pop-based jelly
- Candy and fudge
- Freeze-dried candy
- Lard and tallow
- Vanilla extract
- Herb-flavored or infused vinegar such as commercial vinegar poured over fresh tarragon, fresh garlic, fresh basil, etc.
- Homemade dried pasta such as dried egg noodles
This may not be an exhaustive list. These guidelines apply to those wanting to sell their product directly to the end-consumer only. These guidelines do not apply to those wanting to sell their product to another business such as a grocery store, a restaurant, a school, etc.
