A few years back Tyler Tobald of JTAC Farms near Glasco was introduced to a new technology company for his farm by his local CVA representative and has never looked back. Taranis, a drone company, quickly and efficiently scouts his crop fields using drone technology and their AI Ag Assistant software sends him a summary and recommendations for each field straight to his device.
Tobald said this new technology has greatly improved his farming operations.
“The biggest thing it has helped me with is just getting to know every single acre on the farm in a timely manner. On our operations, like most operations, we’re short on labor, so for me, every hour of the day is at a premium.”
“So, less time spent walking all of the fields is more time spent on other more important projects, more time spent with family, and things like that.”
Along with helping save time, the intelligence and precision of Taranis helps Tobald save money. He said the AI system pinpoints areas of his fields that may need spraying and so forth. He no longer needs to spray the entire field, saving chemical and labor costs.
Tobald said Taranis is still young, but he believes it is way ahead of the competition.
“I really think people are sleeping on this technology, it’s so cutting-edge. They are changing the game, and they are improving every year. They’ve been building this AI for years and it keeps getting better. It is leaps and bounds ahead of anything else in the Ag world right now.”
“We are working towards Taranis being just something you use. We’re taking it from “Wow, it’s kind of kitschy cool” to, this is just going to be an every year thing that gets people time back in their life and saves them money in the long run.”
