Release From: Haley Jones, Director of Development and Marketing
Home Health and Hospice of Dickinson County in Herington, an affiliate of Memorial Health System in Abilene, has selected the next Herington Hero Award. Congratulations to Mark and Elva Strand, and thank you for taking care of Herington!
Together, Mark and Elva serve as volunteers throughout Herington. They are always helping at the Christian Church, they serve as hospice volunteers, and they can be found at various community events lending their support in whatever ways they can.
The nomination had this to say about the Strands:
“Mark and Elva are a powerful volunteer team always there with a friendly smile and helping with food whenever needed. Mark is exceptionally upbeat and inspiring to be around and does hospice volunteering. They both inspire others to do more in the community by going where help is needed with cheerful smiles and hellos to everyone. They helped feed the community for nine years, and everyone was welcome. Mark grilled and smoked awesome meats while Elva coordinated and cooked other food. Both of them made everyone feel so welcome. Mark mowed and cared for the Herington Reservoir for years as a volunteer. Both Mark and Elva volunteer for almost every event that happens in Herington. Both strongly support the Christian Church. Mark recently volunteered to give rides to people with out-of-town appointments.”
Anyone who reads this nomination can agree that it sounds like Mark and Elva are indeed a “powerful volunteer team”. It is an amazing thing when a couple has the same passion and drive for things in life, but when said passion is to serve others and support your community…how extraordinary.
