Irwin Army Community Hospital Secures National Accreditation

Fort Riley Release

Irwin Army Community Hospital is proud to announce that it has earned The Joint Commission’s
Gold Seal of Approval for both Hospital and Primary Care Medical Home Accreditation. The
Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to
providing safe and quality patient care.

“Earning this accreditation is a profound achievement that validates the exceptional work our
team does every single day,” said Col. Laudino Castillo, Commander of Irwin Army Community
Hospital. “It is a testament to the unwavering commitment of our staff to upholding the highest
standards of safe, quality care for our patients. I am incredibly proud of this organization and the
professionals who make it possible.”
The accreditation process involved a rigorous, four-day onsite review on Sept. 10 – 13, 2024, by
a team of Joint Commission surveyors. During this evaluation, the team closely examined the
hospital’s compliance with an extensive set of performance standards across numerous
domains, including emergency management, environment of care, life safety, infection
prevention, leadership, medication management, record of care, provision of care, national
patient safety goals and patient rights.

The Joint Commission’s standards are developed in collaboration with healthcare experts,
providers, and patients. They are grounded in scientific evidence and industry best practices,
ensuring that accredited organizations consistently meet or exceed benchmarks for excellence.
The surveyors’ onsite observations and interviews confirmed Irwin Army Community Hospital’s
adherence to these rigorous criteria.

“Accreditation represents a commitment of IACH’s ongoing efforts to continuously improve its
services and ensure the best possible outcomes for the Fort Riley community,” Castillo said.
“IACH’s patients can take comfort in knowing that they are receiving care from a facility that has
earned the prestigious Gold Seal of Approval.”
