Representative Sharice Davids announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded more than $1.5 million for infrastructure improvements at two Johnson County airports. The funding comes from the bipartisan infrastructure law, which Rep. Davids supported.

Johnson County Executive Airport will receive $712,500 to reconstruct and rehabilitate taxiways. New Century AirCenter will receive $803,674 for new airfield signage and improvements to runways and lighting. These upgrades follow the Johnson County Airport Commission’s master plan and are designed to support local economic growth and good-paying jobs.

Rep. Davids, who serves on the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, has previously helped secure federal funding for both airports. New Century AirCenter is the second-busiest airport in Kansas, with more than 96,000 operations each year. The Executive Airport is the fourth-busiest towered airport in the state, handling more than 56,000 annual operations.

So far, more than $3.2 billion from the bipartisan infrastructure law has been invested across Kansas in projects ranging from broadband expansion to road and safety improvements.
