Emergency Loans Available for Kansans Affected by May 19 Disasters

Emergency loans are now available to assist Kansans impacted by severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes, and flooding on May 19. Last week, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) designated 13 counties as natural disaster areas, which include Barton, Ellsworth, Harvey, Hodgeman, Lincoln, Morris, Ottawa, Pawnee, Reno, Russell, Stafford, Wabaunsee, and Wyandotte.

Under this Presidential disaster declaration, the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) is offering emergency loans to help producers recover. These loans can be used to replace essential items like equipment or livestock, reorganize farming operations, or refinance certain debts. Loan approvals will depend on the extent of losses, available collateral, and the applicant’s repayment ability.

The application deadline is April 21, 2025.

In addition, contiguous counties Butler, Chase, Clay, Cloud, Dickinson, Edwards, Ellis, Finney, Ford, Geary, Johnson, Kingman, Leavenworth, Lyon, McPherson, Marion, Mitchell, Ness, Osage, Osborne, Pottawatomie, Pratt, Riley, Saline, Sedgwick, and Shawnee are also eligible.

On farmers.gov, the Disaster Assistance Discovery Tool, Disaster Assistance-at-a-Glance fact sheet, and Loan Assistance Tool can help you determine program or loan options. To file a Notice of Loss or to ask questions about available programs, contact your local USDA Service Center. FEMA offers different assistance programs for individual citizens, public groups including government agencies and private nonprofit organizations.
