Kansas State will send 20 athletes to the NCAA West Preliminary from May 28-31 in College Station, Texas. The event selects the top 48 athletes and 24 relay teams from the region, with the top 12 advancing to the NCAA Championship in Eugene, Oregon.
Senior Emil Uhlin has already qualified for the NCAA Championship in the men’s decathlon with the 14th best score nationally. Big 12 champions Jhavor Bennett, Safhia Hinds, and Gary Moore Jr. will also compete. Other qualifiers include Monique Hardy in hammer throw, Sharie Enoe in high jump, and Riley Marx in javelin.
Sophomores Tavon Underwood and Nen Matlock will race in the men’s 400 meters for a second straight year. Several first-time competitors include pole vaulters Claire Bybee and Pierson Carlisle, and senior Jessi Brummet in javelin.
Coach Travis Geopfert said the team is focused and ready to compete.
