22nd Annual Cover Your Acres Winter Conference to Address Key Agricultural Challenges in Oberlin

Producers, consultants, and experts will convene for the 22nd annual Cover Your Acres Winter Conference on January 21-22 at the Gateway Civic Center in Oberlin, Kansas. Hosted by K-State Research and Extension in partnership with sponsors, the conference features 10 research-driven sessions tailored to the needs of agricultural professionals.

Lucas Haag, an agronomist with K-State Research and Extension, highlights the relevance of this year’s topics, ranging from managing wheat viruses to navigating economic challenges in input management. Allan Fritz, K-State professor and wheat breeder, will address strategies for targeting wheat end-uses and tackling evolving wheat virus complexities. Dorivar Ruiz-Diaz, a professor of soil fertility, will provide insights into making smart fertilizer investments during tough economic times.

Other sessions include machinery economics with Brady Brewer, manure application for dryland cropland with USDA-ARS scientist Dave Poss, and equitable lease arrangements with Kansas Farm Management Association economists Mark Wood and Glenn Conover. Additional topics cover weed and forage management, grain market outlooks, and the Ogallala aquifer.

Registration opens at 7:45 a.m., with sessions running until 5 p.m. Early registration by January 10 offers discounted fees, while walk-ins are welcome. Fees include meals, refreshments, and educational materials, ensuring valuable insights for attendees.
