The baby boom at the Sedgwick County Zoo continues with the birth of another African elephant calf, just four days after Bomani’s arrival on April 10.
On Monday, Xolani gave birth to a male calf named Kijani, surrounded by supportive herd members, including Bomani and his mother, Talia. Both Xolani and Kijani are doing well and beginning to bond. As a first-time mom, Xolani is learning to care for her calf, with the elephant care team closely monitoring while giving her space to build confidence.
For now, both calves and their mothers will stay behind the scenes to allow time for bonding, nursing, and integration with the rest of the herd. Zoo visitors will be able to see Kijani and Bomani soon.
