The Textron Aviation team announced the passing of Russell W. “Russ” Meyer Jr., the longtime chairman and CEO, and later Chairman Emeritus, of Cessna Aircraft Company. Meyer, a respected leader in aviation, guided Cessna for nearly 30 years and was instrumental in the development and launch of the Citation business jets.
He played a significant role in strengthening the industry through the General Aviation Revitalization Act of 1994 and received numerous honors, including two Collier Trophies, the Wright Brothers Memorial Trophy, and induction into the National Aviation Hall of Fame, according to the website.
Meyer also dedicated himself to using aviation to benefit others. He founded the Special Olympics Airlift, which has transported athletes to the Games for four decades, and launched Wichita’s 21st Street Training Program to create career opportunities for underserved residents. His commitment to youth development extended to many charitable organizations and initiatives.
Meyer’s legacy of innovation, advocacy, and service leaves a lasting impact on Cessna, the aviation industry, and the Wichita community.
