Work has recently begun to improve the City of Beloit’s water treatment system. The project will include a new water treatment plant, a transmission main, and a raw water pump station. The system provides drinking water for about 1,850 residents.
These upgrades will help ensure the city’s water system continues to operate reliably for years to come.
Funding for the project comes from a loan through the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), with additional support from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The loan totals $11,404,000, and $2,587,320 of the loan will be forgiven.
The Kansas Public Water Supply Loan Fund (KPWSLF) provides below-market loans to help cities pay for drinking water improvements. Since 1997, the program has provided over $1.5 billion to 318 Kansas communities to support safe and reliable water systems.
