U.S. Senators Jerry Moran of Kansas and Maria Cantwell of Washington announced they have introduced the NSF AI Education Act, a bipartisan bill aimed at expanding education and training opportunities in artificial intelligence. The legislation, supported by the National Science Foundation, focuses on helping students and workers gain skills in AI, with an emphasis on areas such as agriculture, education, and advanced manufacturing.
The act would fund scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students studying AI and provide grants to support research, development, and training through land-grant universities and the Cooperative Extension Service. It would also establish Centers of AI Excellence at community colleges and vocational schools and promote initiatives to educate at least 1 million U.S. workers on AI by 2030. The legislation encourages collaboration between NSF, educators, and researchers to advance AI learning and prepare the workforce for growing technology needs.
