On Thursday, June 5, the U.S. House passed a bipartisan bill led by Representative Sharice Davids to support people recovering from substance use and help them return to work. The bill renews the CAREER Act, which strengthens job training and support for those in recovery. It was included in the SUPPORT Act and co-led with Rep. Andy Barr of Kentucky.

The CAREER Act helps fund a federal grant program that identifies job training needs and connects recovery services with employment support. It also boosts funding and allows grants to cover transportation to work, training, or treatment.

Davids has made fighting the opioid and fentanyl crisis a priority in Kansas. She helped secure nearly $16 million to fight drug trafficking, backed stronger fentanyl regulations, and supported making Narcan available without a prescription. She’s also worked to get law enforcement better tools and funding to stop drugs at the border and save lives with fast access to treatment.
