Bipartisan “Farm to Fly Act” Reintroduced to Boost Sustainable Aviation Fuel Production and Support American Farmers

U.S. Senators Jerry Moran, Chuck Grassley, Tammy Duckworth, Pete Ricketts, Amy Klobuchar, and Joni Ernst have reintroduced the Farm to Fly Act, a bipartisan bill aimed at accelerating the production and development of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This legislation seeks to leverage existing U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) programs to support the growth of alternative fuels for the aviation sector while creating new markets for American farmers.

The Farm to Fly Act would:

  • Clarify SAF eligibility within USDA Bio-Energy Programs, expanding markets for U.S. agricultural crops through aviation bioenergy.
  • Foster increased collaboration between USDA agencies and the private sector, enhancing partnerships for aviation biofuels.
  • Establish a common SAF definition for USDA purposes, aligning with industry standards and enabling U.S. crops to contribute effectively to aviation renewable fuels.

This legislation has garnered support from leaders in aviation, agriculture, and energy sectors. In September, Senators Moran, Duckworth, Klobuchar, and John Boozman also launched the Sustainable Aviation Caucus to support the growth of the aviation and renewable fuels industries.
