The Kansas Department of Revenue has announced that blackout-style license plates will be available to Kansas drivers starting July 1, 2025. These new plates, featuring a sleek all-black background with white lettering, offer a bold and modern alternative to traditional designs.
The move comes in response to growing public interest in offering a blackout plate option. Kansans will be able to purchase the plates through their local county treasurer’s office.
Blackout plates will be available for both standard passenger vehicles and motorcycles. The fees are as follows:
- One-time plate fee: $40
- Annual royalty fee: $50
- Optional personalization fee: $45.50
Revenue from the royalty fee will go to the License Plate Replacement Fund, helping the Department of Revenue replace worn or damaged plates across the state.
