Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Foundation Awards Grants to 107 Schools for Health and Mental Well-Being Programs

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Foundation has awarded Healthy Habits for Life grants to 107 schools across Kansas. These grants support programs that promote healthy lifestyles for K-12 students, focusing on cardiovascular health, physical activity, nutrition, and mental well-being. This year, 57% of the grants are dedicated to student mental health initiatives.

At Oliver Brown Elementary in Manhattan, rising numbers of students need help managing their emotions, with 20% regularly using social-emotional and sensory support resources. Last year’s grant allowed the school to expand its sensory tools, and this year, they’re adding self-regulation books and social skills card games for teachers.

Schools must address at least one of the four key areas to qualify. Programs vary from new PE equipment and after-school clubs to care kits for teachers to help students self-regulate during difficult moments.
